In a much better match than the first at the Super Heroes Sunday, hosted at the FNB Stadium, the Vodacom Bulls edged the Emirates Lions with 40-35 in a match that could have gone either way. Eleven tries were scored in this spectacle and although a lot can be faulted in this match these two teams should be South Africa's best chance of success in the 2020 Super Series.
The Lions edged out a lead against the Bulls of 21-14 in the first half mainly because of two log distance tries, outscoring the Bulls three to two tries in the first half.
The Vodacom Bulls scored a try just after the beginning of the second half to draw even with the Emirates Lions after the defence of the Lions was complete in lalla land. After yet another mistake in the defence, the Bulls seemingly starting to run the Lions' defence to tatters to take the lead for the first time of the match with 26-21.
Cornal Hendricks' knock-on with an open try-line begging, five minutes before full-time should have been the difference between the two teams. However, a loose pass from the resulting scrum by Morne vd Bergh allowed Hendricks to save. the day for the Vodacom Bulls. The Vodacom Bulls the winner with 40-35 in a thriller.
