DHL Stormers and the Cell C Sharks showed that both sides still have a lot to do if they have any hopes in winning the 2020 Super Rugby title. The Stormers eventually won this trial game with 21-19.

The first 20 minutes of the first half the Sharks enjoyed a territorial advantage. A knock on by Sbu Nkosi as he crossed the try-line cost the Sharks an early lead, however, it is the lost opportunities by the Stormers to score that was a lot more worrying. The Stormers lead 07-05 at the end of the first half but deserved a bigger lead taking the second 20 minutes of the half into consideration.

The second half produced more points and excitement in the first ten minutes than the first half as a whole. Both teams emptied their bench within 15 minutes of the start of the second half losing the little structure there was in the game. The Stormers eventually winning the "spectacle" with the two conversions missed by Curwin Bosch to the one missed by Damian Willemse the difference

DHL Stormers: Tries: Herschel Jantjies (2), Godlen Masimla. Conversions: Damian Willemse (2), Jean-Luc du Plessis
Cell C Sharks: Tries: Makazole Mapimpi (2), Wilco Louw. Conversions: Curwin Bosch, Boeta Chamberlain.
